Dinner PresentationDuring a dinner presentation, courses are interspersed with demonstration and discussion of two very different musical worlds: classical music and jazz. Following the first course, Dominic introduces the orchestral conductor as leader of a large “musical” organization – by using a baton and showing film clips he demonstrates a range of leadership styles, drawing special attention to the power of communication through gesture, listening and responding, the importance of trust and collaboration during preparation and performance. After the second course, Dominic contrasts the world of classical music with the world of jazz – showing film clips or bringing on stage a live jazz band, he describes the importance of creativity and innovation within minimal structures, embracing errors as a source of learning, alternating between leading and supporting roles, rotating leadership responsibilities and building on each other’s ideas in performance. The evening concludes with a group interactive experience using handheld percussion instruments.
